⚡ THE DUTY OF THE NEWSWIRE — IN THE LAW'S OWN WORDS
Editors like to call the burial of a story "editorial discretion." It is not. A broadcaster holds a public licence, and every statute below binds it to a legal duty to inform. Selecting the news to bury documented corruption is a breach of that duty — enforceable, complainable, and reviewable by a court. Here is the black-letter proof:
► Canada — Broadcasting Act, s. 3(1)(g) & 3(1)(i)
Programming must be of a "high standard" and "comprehensive." The CRTC enforces this and can fine a broadcaster or refuse to renew its licence. Licensees are legally prohibited from broadcasting false or misleading news. A public licence is granted in exchange for a duty to inform — not a right to suppress.
► Canada — CAB Code of Ethics, Clauses 5–7 (enforced by the CBSC)
News must be "full, fair and proper," and must not be selected to advance or obstruct any side of a controversial public issue. Its stated purpose in the Code: "to enable people to know what is happening."Deliberately burying this file is a direct, named breach of Clause 5.
► United States — Communications Act of 1934, the "public trustee" doctrine
Broadcasters hold the public airwaves in trust, granted only in exchange for serving "the public interest, convenience, and necessity." The FCC's news-distortion policy bans deliberate falsification, and the FCC reaffirmed these obligations in a public notice in May 2026.The licence is a fiduciary duty to the public — not private property to be used for silence.
► United Kingdom — Ofcom Broadcasting Code, Section Five
News must be reported with "due accuracy" and the duty is at its highest when the matter is of public interest.There is no public interest higher than documented judicial and government corruption.
So let it be said plainly, and let anyone who disputes it take it before a judge: I welcome that day. For 21 years the one thing they have refused me is a courtroom. A libel writ is a courtroom.
